The Story
When I’m at the canvas looking for inspiration, an iconic big cat never fails me. Leopards are the smallest member of the famous “big five” in Africa, but they’re one of the most fierce hunters.
I see them so often depicted in trees, where they find shelter, and hang out with their freshly caught dinner. However, something really inspired me about this particular one boldly laying in the crisp grassland. Catching the last rays of light of the day, this leopard is looking and challenging the viewer to engage with serious eye contact.
This is the original oil painting Golden Repose by wildlife artist Kirsten Mirrey. A true one of one, it exists as the sole expression of this moment and will never be recreated.
Painted entirely by hand in oil, the work carries the depthand textures unique to an original piece at scale.
